This Cookie Policy explains how this website (the "Site"), hosted on GitHub Pages at ertasselli.github.io/andreatasselli, uses cookies and similar storage technologies, and what choices are available to visitors ("you"). It is written to comply with:
- Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council (the "General Data Protection Regulation" or "GDPR");
- Directive 2002/58/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, as amended by Directive 2009/136/EC (the "ePrivacy Directive"), concerning the use of cookies and similar technologies;
- the Italian Personal Data Protection Code, Legislative Decree No. 196 of 30 June 2003, as amended by Legislative Decree No. 101 of 10 August 2018 (the "Italian Privacy Code"); and
- the Guidelines on Cookies and Other Tracking Tools of 10 June 2021 issued by the Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali (the Italian Data Protection Authority), published in the Official Gazette No. 163 of 9 July 2021.
1. Data controller
The data controller for the purposes of this Site is Andrea Tasselli, based in Rome, Italy. You can reach the controller through the professional profiles linked in the Contact section (LinkedIn and GitHub).
2. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small text files that a website can store on your device. "Similar technologies" include other client-side storage mechanisms such as localStorage and sessionStorage, which are not, strictly speaking, HTTP cookies but are treated the same way under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive and the Garante's Guidelines, because they allow information to be stored on, or retrieved from, a visitor's device.
3. What this Site actually uses
This Site does not use HTTP cookies. It uses a small amount of browser localStorage, entirely on your own device, for the following strictly functional purposes only:
| Storage key | Purpose | Duration |
theme | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. | Until you clear your browser data. |
coffeeCount | Remembers the number you reached on the playful "Coffees Drank" counter. | Until you clear your browser data. |
cookieConsent | Remembers that you dismissed this cookie notice, so it is not shown again. | Until you clear your browser data. |
None of this information is transmitted to any server, shared with third parties, used for profiling, or combined with any other data. Under Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code and Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, storage that is strictly necessary to provide a feature you have explicitly requested (such as remembering a display preference you set yourself) is exempt from the requirement to obtain prior consent. The banner shown on this Site is offered for transparency rather than because it is strictly required.
4. No analytics, advertising or profiling
This Site does not use any analytics service (such as Google Analytics), advertising network, social-media tracking pixel, or third-party profiling cookie of any kind.
5. Hosting and third-party content
The Site is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service operated by GitHub, Inc. As with any website, GitHub's servers process standard technical information (such as your IP address and request logs) simply to deliver the page to your browser; this is a normal part of serving any website and is described in GitHub's Privacy Statement.
Some elements of the Site are also loaded directly from other third-party servers. Loading them causes your browser to make a request to that third party, which will typically receive your IP address and standard browser information as part of any normal web request, even though none of these services are known to set cookies on this Site:
- Google Fonts (
fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — used to load the Site's typefaces. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Simple Icons CDN (
cdn.simpleicons.org) — used to display technology logos.
- jsDelivr CDN (
cdn.jsdelivr.net) — used to load the open-source globe visualization library.
- GH Chart (
ghchart.rshah.org) — used to render a public GitHub contribution graph.
- GitHub and LinkedIn — only if you click a link to visit those platforms.
These services are operated by third parties under their own privacy policies, which the controller of this Site does not control.
6. Legal basis
Where GDPR consent is engaged, its legal basis is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) read together with Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive. As explained in Section 3, the local storage used by this Site is strictly necessary and functional, so it falls outside the consent requirement; it is described here for transparency in line with the Garante's Guidelines.
7. Your rights
Because no personal data leaves your device through the mechanisms described above, most GDPR data-subject rights (Articles 15–22 GDPR) have limited practical application here. You can still, at any time and free of charge:
- Withdraw or reset your choice by clearing your browser's local storage/site data for this Site, or by using your browser's private/incognito mode.
- Block storage entirely through your browser settings, which may disable the theme-preference and coffee-counter features but will not otherwise affect your ability to browse the Site.
- Lodge a complaint with the Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali (www.garanteprivacy.it) or with the supervisory authority of your EU member state of residence.
8. How to manage storage in your browser
You can view, block or delete locally stored data at any time from your browser settings — typically under "Privacy and security" → "Site settings" or "Clear browsing data". Refer to your browser's help documentation for exact steps (Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all expose this under slightly different menus).
9. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the Site's use of cookies or local storage changes — for example, if analytics were ever added in the future, this page would be updated first and the consent banner would be shown again. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
10. Contact
For any question about this policy, please reach out via the LinkedIn or GitHub links on the homepage.
